What is the difference between glazed and unglazed tiles?

Glazed tiles are tiles that have been fired with a protective layer of glass. They typically aren’t as thick and in turn less dense.

An unglazed tile is a tile without the protective layer of glass on top of it. This is usually done for surfaces that are required to be more slip-resistant, like floor tiles.
